Unbelievable: Burnley beats Manchester United

Newly promoted side, Burnley, yesterday defeated Manchester United one goal to nil.
In the surprise encounter, Manchester united started the match that looked so promising for them with Michael Owen loosing alot of scoring chances.
It didn't take so long before Burnley started mounting pressure with their counters and took their close opprtunity with a well blind shoot by Blake into the goal.
At the start of second half, Michael Owen who wasted many chances at the first half was replaced by a better Dimitriv Berbatov who tried his tricks but couldn't produce the goal.
This defeat of Manchester United by Burnley is the second time since 1963.

A Wonderful First Week

The much expected week one of the English premier league was as predicted, very interesting.
The very first match brought an edgy performance from the Hull City team that scared the day light out of the Carlo Ancellotti tutored Chelsea.
The match saw Hull's new signing,Nigerian international,Seyi George Olofunjana as well as former Reading man, Steven Hunt, all featuring at the blast of the whistle. It will be recalled that last season, it was the former reading player that caused a major injury to Peter Cech, that was why the Chelsea stopper always wear the head gear during matches. It was Hull new signing, Steven Hunt who was being booed at the touch of the ball that drew first blood 26 minutes into the first half. He scored after a series of scrappy defending from the Chelsea defence and blasted home without making a mistake. Chelsea however, equalised towards the dying minute of the first half with a wonderful free kick after Mikel Obi has been fouled at the edge of the box.
Just when all was settling for a draw, Chelsea equalised. It was Portugal play maker, Deco, that played the killer pass to Didier Drogba who made no mistake by slotting the ball out of the reach of the Hull City keeper.
This left Chelsea's new coach with a victory after the first game in charge. The challenge shall countinue for Chelsea on Tuesday.

It was score-spray for Arsenal side who hammerred Everton 6-1. Fabregas brace inspired the gunners and Arshavin's performance made life difficult for David Moyes tutored Everton.

The red devil started on a bright note with a lone goal from Wayne Rooney who was at his best. He could have had a hat-trick but for shear ill-luck. It ended their poor start at two seasons where they drew their matches.

The big surprise of the weekend was Liverpool who received shock of their life at the hands of Tottham Hotspurs 2-1. This surely will leave Benitez thinking out a new tactic to the game with all the teams improving. It is like the prophesy of Alex Ferguson who said that Liverpool will find it tough this season since all clubs has already mastered their pattern of play.

Ribery more expensive than Ronaldo

Bayern Munich are not ready to part with their jewel, Frank Ribery any sooner. It was understood that Real Madrid had placed an amount for Ribery for 85 million pounds, 5 pounds more than what they used in buying Ronaldo. But the German outfit is not ready for that amount. They insist that they can only sell for 100 million pounds. That is like telling Real Madrid that you cannot get his services this season. Already, Bayern Munich has lost the services of Brazil Defender Lucio and they wouldn't want to loose another player too soon.

Portmouth and transfer

One of the hard fighting sides of the English premiership, Portmouth are strongy preparing for the new season. Very recently, they employed the services of former Espanyol player, Steven Finnan and also former Blacburn defender, Aaron Makuona. This buys will be very important for the Pompey side since it will fill blank spaces of some transfer away from the club. Meanwhile, Hart is still promising of purchasing strikers to fill the departure of Peter Crouch.

Zamora on fire

Ever green Didier Zamora inspired Fulham to victory in their third qualifying round 1st leg in the Europa cup with FK Vetra. Zamora scored the first goal of the match. He also made an attempt to score he second but ws brought down in the bo and a penalty awarded. Danny Murphy did not make any mistake in taking the penalty and made it 2-o. Seoul Ki-Hyeon made it 3-0 with a very fine effort. the result leaves Fulham with a very good advantage in the second leg that will be played t home.
It will be recalled that Zamora was at the verge of leaving the club with plenty of spculation but seems settled with his display ad goals.

Newcastle and Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins has finally moved to the Germany after Newcastle was relegated from the premiership. It was understood that Wolfsburg signed him for 9 million pounds from the English outfit. This will give Martins play his normal roughed pattern of football like he did at Inter Milan. It will also give him an opportunity to play at the Champions league which begins somtime in August and also to be enlisted as part f Nigeria squard to the 2010 World Cup.

Aston Villa wins Peace Cup

The final of the Peace cup was drama all the way.
Juventus players had a contract with heaven in that all their shoots was sent straight to heaven throughout the match. David Trezeget led the Juventus players that led series of chances to heaven. After a fruitless 90 minutes without a win , the game entered extra 30 minutes. But the football world was shocked when the center referee stopped the match three and a half minutes to the end. The game thereafter went into penalties. De piero had the opportunity of winning the game for Juventus like John Terry of Chelsea with the last penalty but he instead gave a Christmas present in August to the Aston Villa keeper. This gave way for dead penalty shootout. The first dead balls was slooted in by Aston Villa while Juventus sent their own to heaven. This made Aston Villa the winners of the Peace Cup. Throughout the competition, Aston Villa surprised themselves winning stiff opposition despite some injury scare. Their young players never gave their opponent an opportunity to over-ride them. Their win a against Sevilla and finally winning it will be a memory that will remain in the minds of the players throughout the season.
Aston Villa deserves the credit bearing in mind that teams such as Real Madrid, Juventus, FC Porto and Sevilla also participated in the competition.

R-E-V-E-A-L-E-D

New Manchester City defender, Kolo Toure has come out to declare the reasons why he left Arsenal. In his words, he said that he left Arsenal as a result of lack of strong players to challenge with teams that are continuosly buying players. He also blamed his decision to leave on the insistence of Arsene Wenger to allow big players to leave the club. These big players which he said includes, Patrick Viera, Thiery Henry, Kanu Nwankwor,Matheu Flamini, Alexendar Hleb, Emmanuel Adebayor, Ashley Cole et cetera.
Kolo Toure who was part of the Arsenal team that went invincible without loosing a single match in the 2003/2004 season was impressed with Manchester City's recent buys of Gareth Barry from Aston Villa, Santa Cruz from Blackburn, Carlos Tervez from Manchester United, and Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal. He said that these buys is an indication of a team that yearns to win something in the new season but that with the way Arsenal is going, it might be another season without a major trophy, hence he had to leave.
It will be recalled that the last major trophy Arsenal won was in 2005 and according to some commentators, Arsenal doesn't look like the team that want to win anything except when they make some key signings.
Arsenal today, is always looking at football from the business point of view forgetting to carry the fans along with winning things to the club. They seem to be surviving on past glory instead of doing new things by winning more trophies. The fact that they currently won Rangers in a friendly over the weekend, is not an indication that they are set to win the premiership or the champions league. The premiership is definitely a different ball game.
What is the way forward for Arsenal?
